For nearly a decade, we have documented the growing obstacles to growth in the European asset management industry. Even as the industry rises on the back of market appreciation, many firms continue to struggle as the competitive landscape shifts below their collective feet. The cumulative effect has been a slowdown in hiring and a more urgent need to manage compensation expectations. Paige Scott, senior partner at Kingsley Gate Partners, along with Steve Unzicker from the Institutional Investor Institute, conducted one-on-one interviews with a number of survey participants to allow us to understand the current environment and its impact on recruiting efforts and compensation plans.
